"Just To Say We Did"

The quote above is the title of a newer song by Kenny Chesney about cherishing saying "yes!"

Later this month my father is going to be coming out to California. We will be loading up a rented RV and driving it to Cedar City, Utah. We plan to meet up with my lifelong friend, Jason, and start our adventure.

I’m planning to ride my bike about 850 miles through beautiful southern Utah into Colorado and finish by climbing up Pikes Peak over the course of a little more than a week. It will be quite hilly with over 38,000 feet of climbing. Jason is planning to ride plenty of sections with me and my dad will be moving the RV up along the route and riding his bike back to join us.

I picture plenty of miles on open roads and quiet nights under the stars as we try to recharge and wonder how we got ourselves into this situation.

Why are we doing this?

At the end of the day, Kenny may be right, “Just to say we did.” The thought of having these days together with my dad, Jason, and anyone else who we meet along the way is a chance that may not come along again or too often. It is also an opportunity to learn about us as we figure out how to bike 110 miles+ each day and get up and do it again with so many unknown challenges.

“Just To Say We Did” doesn’t mean taking unnecessary risks, but I do think it means being ready to “yes” and being aware that “someday we won’t get to!”

Take a moment and think about your family, friends, work, and leisure:

What is something you really want to do this month, and this year?

Be mindful of the next time you say, “yes” or “no” to something and see if it sits well with you or how you may respond next time.

There are so many experiences that can be memorable and bring us closer to others.

Take this month to add your own verse to the song,

"Just To Say We Did."

Until next month,
